Played on the basis of the UEFA Champions League format, the league brings football and scholarships to hundreds of slum kids since 2016. The league was created to bring more educational opportunities for slum kids through sports scholarships and bursaries in primary schools around Uganda. Since 2017, we also have the Girls’ Primary schools Championship. The schools in close vicinity are seeded into groups, where they compete against each other on a home and away basis starting out in March. The best teams from each group then qualify for the knock out rounds where they meet schools from other regions, and compete till the final which is a one – legged game at a neutral ground in August. Most importantly, the league games also include workshops on Football 4 WASH drills, helping the kids to win not only on the pitch but also off it through vital health education.
